We value a commitment to endless curiosity and innovation in the field of floral design. Our studio prides itself on creating beautiful and unique designs that are crafted thoughtfully and intentionally – building a connection between the sender and recipient, the guests and the event, the couple and their family and loved ones. Building connection through flowers is a core value we treasure and so we enter our relationships with curiosity and joy.
As a PNW based company, the base of our designs are composed of local ingredients. Proximity is important in many relationships, but we also believe in long distance relationships, and the beauty that is found afar. We infuse our designs thoughtfully with products from around the world.
Our Story
As a florist since 2007, I’ve moved from working in a traditional brick and mortar shop to working in a retail boutique style shop as an employee and then owner. I’ve worked with countless customers that span the range of floral needs with a grateful heart and a desire to connect through flowers. I’ve adored the human element of floristry and I’ve loved serving a wide public in a community driven floral shop.
Relocating and embracing a smaller scale business, focusing on an elevated and more curated product, is an exciting and fulfilling change. A change that makes me grateful to the places I’ve been as a florist and strengthens my commitment to art through flowers and connecting people through flowers.
My home at Flower Lab in Seattle has seen me at early stages of motherhood and as my children grow I feel passionately that my relationship with flowers does as well. As my family and I find a new home in my childhood home of Bellingham, there is a sense of natural growth that is inspiring as it is empowering. Through this evolution, it is clear to me that even without a storefront it is essential for me to connect with my community through flowers.

Why We Do It
Flower Lab owner Katie Ellison’s work explores the emotional language of flowers—how form, texture, and color can display emotions ranging from celebration to grief. With roots in fine art and literature, she approaches floral design as a meeting place between aesthetic clarity and our human story. Recently returned to her hometown of Bellingham after years in Montana and Seattle, Katie draws from the Pacific Northwest’s shifting light, organic structures, and layered textures. These elements shape her visual vocabulary and guide her toward arrangements that feel alive, intentional, and grounded in place. For more than 15 years, she has worked as a florist across Washington and Montana, collaborating with designers in a broad range of styles. Whether sculptural and textural or soft and seasonal, her work centers relationships, community, and the expressive potential at the heart of Flower Lab’s practice.
